A Place Where We All Belong

Miami artist Carlos Betancourt was among the 500 naked people who posed for Spencer Tunick at the Sagamore Hotel yesterday. Like most people who are conditioned to be clothed. Betancourt was self-conscious when he first disrobed, but adapted quickly to the situation.
It's a very, very dramatic and simultaneously joyous experience. To see so many people naked together takes you to a universal place. I'm not sure where, but it's a place where we all belong.
While I have some reservations about the direction in which Tunick is taking his installations, the experience for the participants remains profound and liberating. Betancourt, in his euphoria, managed to sum up in one phrase the nude experience: "a place where we all belong".
