Saggy Saga Simmers

Flint police chief David Dicks is not backing down from his saggy-pants crusade, even in the face of an ACLU lawsuit.

"Your new practice of stopping and threatening young men with disorderly conduct for wearing 'saggy pants' is a blatant violation of the United States Constitution," the ACLU wrote to Dicks in a letter last week."

Although you were recently appointed chief of the Flint Police Department, you cannot appoint yourself chief of the 'fashion police.'

You have no power to criminalize a style of dress because you find it distasteful. We ask that you halt this practice immediately."

"Kudos to Dicks"

A Michigan State University editorial supports Flint police chief David Dicks and his anti-droopy drawer crusade.

...it’s about time a city stepped up and did something to mitigate the visual blight caused by people who think they’re making fashion statements by letting their pants ride below their waists.

In the interest of full disclosure, I’m fully in favor of the First Amendment. If someone wants to wear a shirt that reads “F—- the Police,” that’s a protected right that every American is entitled to exercise.

However, crude shirts and sagging pants are not parallel offenses.

Isn't it amazing how people can selectively support the first amendment, based upon their own personal preferences? How can someone profess to be "fully" in support of a freedom, and place restrictions at the same time? It's the very definition of hypocrisy.

Dicks Nixes

Flint, Michigan, police chief David Dicks is cracking down on crack.

(He) doesn't like it when teenage guys and young adults wear their pants so far down their underwear or bare bottoms are exposed. His research has led him to conclude it's tantamount to indecent exposure and he's putting out the word: "sagging," as it's called, is a "national nuisance," and "immoral self expression."
