"Talk to a Therapist"

A woman writes to Ellie complaining about her 25 year-old daughter's penchant for wearing low-cut and see-through tops.
We now have a good relationship and she visits us often. However, she has taken to going braless in flimsy materials where her full breasts and nipples are visible. I wouldn't want any woman coming to my home with my husband there, wearing practically nothing.
Instead of Ellie explaining to "Stressed" that nipples and breasts are nothing to get upset about, she offers this advice:
It's time you stopped being afraid to alienate her ... This may even be her adult way of "testing you," wanting you to care enough to be honest (without putting her down). Try to do it gently and with humour, as in, "You're gorgeous but we're seeing too much of you for parental comfort, so here's a shirt to wear while you're here." Also, be upfront in explaining that the younger girls aren't allowed to dress like that, as they're not as capable as she is of handling any overt reaction.

However, "sexual jealousy" has nothing to do with her clothing. It's related to your insecurities – perhaps about middle age, perhaps about your marriage. If it persists, talk to a therapist about it.
So, Ellie tells her to alienate her daughter by telling her to cover up, teach the younger children that the older daughter dresses like a slut, and to talk to a therapist. All over the sight of female breasts! How about telling the woman to simply stop staring at her daughter's breasts if they're upsetting her so much.

What other culture on earth would allow nipples to potentially break up a family? Complete insanity.

Nipples Ahoy!

The people who run the charter boat in Florida which was banned from a Fort Pierce marina because it featured bikini clad/topfree lady mates have consulted an attorney and are circulating a petition to build up public support.

The boat was banned because the marina features "family events", even though the women in the bikinis were never seen on the dock, only took their tops off miles from shore, and the boat enforced a strict "no touch" policy.

Once again, it's all about the nipples. As far as I know, there is no law preventing anyone from wearing a bikini on a boat, male or female. In addition, I know of no law preventing anyone from getting totally naked on a boat out to sea, otherwise how could there be nude cruises?

No, it's those pesky female nipples which cause people to lose all sensibility, that they need to be covered up at all time for the sake of "the children".

This appears to be a clear case of discrimination. If a bunch of men go out fishing, downing beers with their man boobs hanging out, nobody bats an eyelash, but should a woman do the same - well, suddenly someone is offended.

The rest of the world must really think we are nuts.

Lily Allen Plays With Her Nipple on TV

Pop singler Lily Allen is not ashamed of her body. A short time ago she was photographed smiling and swimming topfree (left), and it is now reported that she played with her exposed nipple on television for three minutes. In a previous TV appearance, Allen revealed that she has a third nipple and proceeded to show it to viewers.

Ordinarily celebrities expose skin only when it benefits them financially, such as acting in a nude scene in a movie, or by posing nude for a prominent magazine cover. It's refreshing to see someone like Allen who just seems genuinely comfortable with her own body.

Mainstreaming the Nipple

For most of us, the female nipple is the first body part we encounter upon entering the world. The nipple is nourishment, the nipple is life. It is warmth and motherhood, it is love. But somehow along the way in modern life, the nipple becomes taboo, something to be covered up and remain unseen by all except sexual partners. Even toddler girls wear swimsuits to cover the nipples.

Aaron Sagers ponders recent media coverage of recent nipple exposures and comes to the conclusion that "the nipple has become a somewhat acceptable level of PG-13 taboo". But has it? While Sagers cites recent events involving nipples, such as the Janet Jackson Super Bowl exposure, and the woman who was forced to remove her nipple rings for airport security, these are anti-nipple stories. Even a story about the WrestleMania billboard in Florida on which the male nipples were airbrushed does nothing to improve our society's phobia regarding the female nipple.

Sagers goes on to say:
Of course sex sells, and drives Web traffic, and when respected news outlets expose the exposed (sometimes with accompanying photos online), nipple news becomes required browsing.
This is still the problem, that the female nipple is still treated as a sex object. No matter that the female breast is nearly fully fleshed out in mainstream media, such as in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues, it's that damn nipple that still remains the final taboo, that magic body part that must remain covered for the sake of "the children" and the well-being of society in general.

But there is hopeful news elsewhere in the world. While topfreedom exists on many European beaches, it has not been acceptable in European public pools. All that appears to be on the verge of changing, as Sweden's Bara Brost Network has challenged the inequality of men being able to be topfree while women cannot, which has in turn inspired Denmark to accept topfree women at its public pools.

With Liz Book's recent success in Florida at her TITS demonstration, the road to topfreedom on America's beaches has been paved. While the current generation of young Americans are poised to elect the first African-American President, or the first woman President, they are also the ones destined to embrace the naturalness of their own bodies.

Uma Thurman Makes Nude Fashion Statement

Uma Thurman appeared nearly nude in public wearing a see-through Valentino gown at the Swarovski Fashion Rocks event.

The significance of the dress is that it clearly reveals Uma's nipples, breaking a modern social taboo. The female nipple has been well hidden from public view since the Victorian times, and fashion for women has ranged from binding corsets to bullet bras, all designed to be sexually repressive while remaining pleasing to the male eye.

The only memorable fashion statement that directly addressed the liberation of women's bodies was the "monokini" or topless bathing suit, but generally anyone who tried to wear one was arrested.

I have not read any reports about Uma Thurman having been arrested for exposing her breast in public. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new fashion trend. Women have been exposing their cleavage in public for decades, especially in Hollywood. Remember Barbra Streisand and Jennifer Lopez and their revealing outfits? They exposed most of their breasts, but none have dared to freely expose their nipples.

It's long past the time where women should be enjoying the same freedom that men have when it comes to body freedom. Uma Thurman has opened the door in a beautiful and classy way.

UPDATE: Egotastic has high resolution photographs of Uma in her gown, including one from behind where her buttocks are clearly visible. Uma is essentially nude in public. This is not an insignificant event in the fashion world, I'll bet that other celebrities are asking their designers for something equally daring.
