Man Arrested in Vermont for Public Nudity

I would have called the cops on this guy, who was seen dancing naked on a Brattleboro street and exhibiting lewd behavior. He would have been kicked out of any nudist resort in a minute.

All the stories about legal public nudity in Vermont have apparently brought out the kooks. This bozo and his antics will even further sour public perceptions on nudity.

How do you know? We don't have the slightest clue what he did, the cop would not tell.

They only say it is "lewd" but most people think nudity is lewd to begin with.

I say, innocent until proven guilty.

This is from the news article:

" Adhi Palar, 20, of Brattleboro was charged Wednesday after police saw him dancing and "performing acts of lewdness involving his genitals and some clothing," said police Capt. Gene Wrinn. He wouldn't elaborate. "He was performing some lewd acts. He was getting some looks and we got some complaints."

Seems like we do have a clear clue as to his behavior. Nobody has said that the man is guilty, but he has been charged and could face 5 years in prison if convicted. There is a videotape and several witnesses.

There is no upside to making an argument in favor of this sort of behavior.

The arrest may actually help us here. It may help to demonstrate that inappropriate behavior is illegal and you can get arrested for it. We always try to point out that nude <> lewd and the arrest seems to bolster that point. Further, it may help keep those same crazies that could muck things up for us at bay.

Hi Dan, there is already opposition to public nudity in Brattleboro. It is likely to intensify after this incident. The argument will be that allowing public nudity will lead to lewd behavior. Look for the Selectboard to enact some sort of ordinance this year, I'm afraid that this wacko might be the catalyst that tips the scales.

Well, this guy may have taken some liberties that weren't his to begin with. He thought that Battleboro would also allow exhibitionism, so he decided to exhibit himself. That's wrong.

Basically, what is wrong with the country as far as nudism goes is simple: too many people think nudity is just for sex. Adhi Palar is really confused as to how nudism should be expressed. Judging by his name, he could be muslim. Which means that he comes from a religion that is now even more repressive. Being introduced to nudism was like taking a drug for him. He's just confused public nudity with sex and now he has to take the penalty for it.

Unfortunately, the other naturists have to be punished for his actions as well.

No, we don't. We just have a judgment call from a police officer. He said it was lewd, I just know that somehow genitals and clothes were involved.

Azmodan, I'm a little baffled that you are defending this guy. Keep in mind that there was public nudity in Brattleboro all last summer and even this spring with no arrests. It's not illegal to be nude in public in Brattleboro. Plus, this guy has been charged, it's more than just a "judgement call" from a police officer, there are witnesses who complained, and there is a videotape. Certainly we reserve final judgement until there is a court finding in the matter, but it's pretty clear that this guy was doing something that went beyond simple nudity.
