Buckeye Bares Naturist Club Suspends Activity

The Buckeye Bares naturist group in the Akron/Canton area of Ohio has suspended its activities due to "business and personal time limitations". The club had been active for only about a year. This was not a big surprise to me because they stopped responding to emails months ago. The Buckeye Naturists club in Columbus is also suffering from management indifference, and is on the verge of insolvency. It's difficult to maintain enthusiasm in Ohio naturist non-landed groups due to a lack of acceptable venues, and a severe gender imbalance among the members. It's all pretty depressing.

Am I correct in assuming that the Buckeye Bares group is run by only Dave? And the Naturists by only two people?

Since there is impending change anyway, maybe you guys could try some new ideas? First, I'd combine the two groups into a statewide group, and make it into a community-driven group instead of having 1 or 2 people run the show. Set up a central place for communication (forum, wiki) and make it clear that everyone can participate.

Anyone who has an idea for a venue should speak up and organize an event. People should be given the choice to organize an event, or pay membership for that year.

Alternative venues could include:
* People's homes. (I attended a great party in a trailer park! Other friends have a country home with pool/sauna.)
* Motels, assuming you can book every room for the day. (Badger Naturists do this for winter parties. Motels have nice pools.)
* Bowling places, skating places.
* Farms. (Farmers have lots of land and probably trails for hiking, biking, or ATV's.)

I think you guys would have a good time no matter what event was planned. The leadership may be too busy to run the show, but I'm confident that you all can run things yourself (at least for one event each year).

I'm sorry to hear about the Buckey Bares. When they started up I thought they had a lot of potential.

I share your concerns about TBN. Earlier this year I thought that maybe there had been a spark of renewed interest but that seems to have gone out.

There has been no club communication since the PG visit. Nothing on the blog or in the Google group about the Cedar Trails or Sunshower visits, and nothing about the upcoming (?) swims.

I really doubt there will be any change in the club. I recently asked about renewing my membership. He said he'd be sending out renewal notices or I could just do it at the next swim. I'm having some doubts about the value of being a member.

Mike had some excellent ideas but would there be enough support? I don't even know how to contact most members. Other than a few I've had contact with I don't even know who belongs to the club. The membership list seems to be a closely guarded secret.

Rick,

That spark was me. I created the Google group, the blog, and the newsletter. I even offered to create a professional web site all at my own expense. TBN management seems content with just having winter swims where a dozen people show up to play water volleyball, and nothing else. I tried, but I cannot waste any more time with a group that has zero enthusiasm.

I figured you were at least behind the spark, if not the spark itself. I knew you were the impetus for the Google group and the blog. I think a professionally done web site might have been good but they seem to be content with the current situation there.

You're right, if there's no interest, what's the point in beating a dead horse?
