The Face of Nudism?

Florida radio station owner Doug Wilhite was arrested and accused of having sexual activity with a minor. Up to seven teens are possible victims.
The mix of boys and girls said they did not have sex with Wilhite, but claimed he paraded around his house naked, offered them alcohol, showed pornographic movies and encouraged them to have sex with each other so he could watch.

Five of the seven said they got naked in front of Wilhite, at his insistence. Some also said they played pool in the nude at his house, while others said Wilhite said "house rules" required them to remove their clothes if they wanted to use his workout room.

One of the girls said she had sex in front of Wilhite, both in his house and in the back seat of his car as Wilhite drove and watched, Davidson said. Two other girls said they had sex with a boy, believing the liaisons were private but instead learned Wilhite was watching.

Others said Wilhite grabbed their buttocks and one claimed he rubbed his genitals against her.
So how does the media label this guy? One story calls him "a self-professed nudist" and says that he "admitted he was a nudist" to investigators. Another story simply refers to Wilhite as "a nudist".

The mere act of not wearing clothes does not make one a nudist, or a naturist, no more than putting on a costume at Halloween makes one Dracula, but the media doesn't care because labeling this creep as a "nudist" makes good headlines, especially in Florida where the clothes-free population is the highest in America.

Concerned nudists and naturists should leave comments on these stories disassociating themselves from this man's behavior.

UPDATE: Thank you Fox Orlando for writing a story about this man and not referring to him as a "nudist".

Generous America, Scary America

Nobody is defending what Roman Polanski did with a 13 year-old girl in Los Angeles over 30 years ago. Nobody.

But this "sinister arrest" of the 76 year-old film director says more about the American obsession with sex than with the rule of law.
The arrest outraged the government of France, which has declined to extradite Polanski since he fled the United States in 1978, after a Los Angeles judge signaled he would scotch a plea agreement in the sex case. In France, Polanski is revered both as a filmmaker and as a martyr to American injustice and puritanism.

Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand issued a statement saying he "profoundly regrets that a new ordeal is being inflicted on someone who has already known so many during his life."

Mitterrand also charged that Polanski was "thrown to the lions," the Associated Press reported. "In the same way that there is a generous America that we like, there is also a scary America that has just shown its face," he said.
The victim of Polanski's sexual advances, Samantha Geimer, is now 45 years old with a family, and has been trying to put this ordeal behind her for years.
"I have survived, indeed prevailed, against whatever harm Mr. Polanski may have caused me as a child," she said at the time. "I got over it a long time ago." Geimer said Polanski had paid, and she wanted to move on and stop reliving the details of the assault every time he made headlines.

"True as they may be, the continued publication of those details causes harm to me, my beloved husband, my three children and my mother," she said.
In 1997 Geimer is quoted as saying, "He did something really gross to me, but it was the media that ruined my life." Now the US judicial system wants to ruin her life all over again.

The details of this case are well known to most, from Polanski's escape from Nazi Germany as a child, his mother's death in a concentration camp, the brutal murder of his wife Sharon Tate at the hands of the Manson family, to the publicity hungry judge who wanted to send Polanski a "stern message", forcing him to skip bail and leave the United States behind. This is a tragedy that keeps on compounding itself behind the blind and relentless search for justice at any cost to all involved.

The only real justice will be if Polanski appears in an American court, and the charges are dismissed as per the request of Samantha Geimer. Enough is enough.

Update on Jasmine Trail in North Carolina

As previously noted, there is an investigating being launched against Jasmine Trail Nudist Campground in North Carolina. The local district attorney has called in the FBI.

There have been a lot of questions about why anyone would investigate a nudist resort when there have been zero complaints against the facility.

It turns out that that a local NC school psychologist was arrested and charged with taking "indecent liberties with a minor and first degree sexual exploitation of a minor" by taking nude photos of a boy. Apparently investigators found that this man's online profile included Jasmine Trail and decided to expand their probe.

The report does not state the exact nature of the photos in question, but the North Carolina statute on first degree sexual exploitation of a minor is pretty clear that sexual activity is likely depicted.

The man in question, Johnny Clevenger, reportedly planned to visit Jasmine Trail but was arrested before he made the trip. Had he made it to the campground, he would have been greeted at the gate, engaged in conversation, filled out a registration form, and given a tour of the park. All this is according to the Jasmine Trail website. There is no mention if new visitors undergo any type of background check.

Since Clevenger was a school psychologist, are officials now investigating the school for hiring him? Did he belong to a church, a country club, was he a Scoutmaster, did he belong to any fraternal groups? Are those organizations also subject to scrutiny?

It's clear that these people as singling out Jasmine Trail and its members for criminal investigation based upon mere circumstance and common misconceptions. I'm certain that there is no way, no how, the owners and members of Jasmine Trail would have allowed Clevenger to remain on the property had he shown any sign of voyeuristic or other sexual behavior. He would not have been allowed to bring in a camera, and if he showed any sign of being overtly interested in children, they would have called the police.

Chances are the child who officials allege was exploited by the school psychologist would have been far safer at Jasmine Trail than wherever the exploitation took place.

There are bad people everywhere. With all the sex scandals in the US Congress, nobody is calling for an investigation of all Senators and Representatives. The Catholic Church has been dealing with hundreds of child abuse cases involving priests, but nobody is calling for an investigation of all churches. Singling out Jasmine Trail merely because one alleged pervert thought about going there is a fishing expedition designed merely to further the careers of elected politicians.

Because of the behavior of one man, who had no official connection to Jasmine Trail, this district attorney has called in the FBI to investigate photos which were on the park's website, is calling into question the fitness of the parents who practice naturism with their families, and wants legislation drafted to make it illegal for children to be naturists.

I have a bad feeling about this whole case. While I doubt that the FBI will find anything, just the fact that they are investigating is highly damaging to the Jasmine Trail's reputation, and certainly anyone planning a visit to the park will think twice about going, especially with children.

I'd like to see AANR and TNS encourage all of its members to go to Jasmine Trail on a designated day as a show of support, and call in the press. The nudist population in Pasco County was under similar attack several years ago from Rep. Mark Foley - perhaps they could pile into buses for the 12 hour drive to Jasmine Trail. Imagine hundreds of nudist and naturists from all over gathering to dispel the myths about the lifestyle and telling government to leave them alone.

UPDATE: Here's a link to the original stories about the school psychologist.

Nudist Couple Charged With Child Sex Abuse

A Brazilian judge has indicted a U.S. couple of abusing children at a Brazilian nudist "colony". Also indicted were a Brazilian couple and the parents of three boys who were allegedly abused. Apparently hundreds of photos were found as evidence. The children were from poor areas and it is reported that money was exchanged for the right to abuse the boys.

Make no mistake. These people are not nudists, they are child predators who were living in a nudist resort. Child predators can be priests, scoutmasters, teachers, coaches or anyone from any walk of life. Unfortunately, people are already suspicious of nudists in the first place, and this horrible situation only further erodes the efforts of organizations such as AANR or TNS to promote family-safe nudism/naturism.

If these people are guilty, lock them up and throw away the key. Abusing children is the most heinous of all crimes and cannot be tolerated by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
