Random Thoughts for the New Year

Some bureaucrat sitting at a desk somewhere failed to report that the underwear bomber's dad warned about his son's radical nature, so the U. S. Government decided to punish each and every air passenger with increased security measures and nude body scans.

It's always about the money. Did you know that former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who has been touting these full body image scanners for airports, has a business relationship with Rapiscan?

Is there one Republican anywhere who has expressed support for the President of the United States over this current terrorist incident?

Did you know that one of the plotters involved in the underpants bomb incident was released from Guantanamo prison by the Bush/Cheney administration in 2007?

While America is spending billions of dollars and thousands of lives fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban, China is spending billions of dollars mining raw materials in Afghanistan to feed its booming economy.

Our artificial Christmas tree this year was made in China. You don't have to be a Harvard economist to figure out what's wrong with America.

In a society where porn stars like Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson are elevated to superstar status, golfer Tiger Woods is vilified for having sex outside of marriage. According to Kinsey, 50% of all American males have extramarital sex at least once during a lifetime.

What's going to happen to the charities which depend upon the millions raised by Tiger Woods? Thousands of young people also stand to be punished because of America's sexual phobias and a media which attacks and destroys people with unbridled, unashamed and unrepentant glee.

The insurance companies have completely corrupted and broken our health care system, so Congress decided to deal with the problem by forcing people to buy more insurance.

Rush Limbaugh, bless his heart, survived a heart attack scare and proclaimed that the U. S. healthcare system was just fine, and that he received the same treatment as anyone else. Excuse me, but isn't this a socialist or Communist viewpoint?

New Year's resolution - turn off Chris Matthews every time he says "Dick Cheeney".

Did anyone besides me find "Avatar" to be a completely predictable colossal bore? On the other hand, "Up in the Air" is sublime.

Best movie moment of the year is the opening montage to Pixar's "Up".

Best actor - George Clooney in "Up in the Air"

Best supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz in "Inglorious Basterds" (a lock)

Best actress - Carey Mulligan in "An Education"

Best supporting actress - Mo'Nique in "Precious" (another lock)

Best Picture and Director - "The Hurt Locker", directed by Kathryn Bigelow ("Up in the Air" will likely win)

I like the idea of everybody moving their money to community banks.

Food scare-du-jour: gluten.

The 2010 Naturist Society event schedule is now online here. The Naturist Action Committee December 2009 Newsletter is online here. It's beyond my comprehension why these organizations don't maintain a basic e-mail notification system to let members know what's happening.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all!

Regarding Limbaugh, the more interesting story on him was his announcement that he is getting married next summer. It is possible that a woman might overlook three prior failed marriages in the confidence that she has what her predecessors lacked, but that couple the divorces with Limbaugh's famous references to "femnazis" everytime a competent woman hits the headlines and you have to wonder what this woman uses for brains.

Well said Jim H.
I would wonder what kind of woman could look forward to spending every day with Limbaugh?

The virtual nudity scans are obviously a violation of people's rights and some will be emotionally scarred by this. Us naturists have a big advantage, since we don't care who sees us naked.

It is truly an ill wind that doesn't blow aomebody any good. If they go the next step and actually make people strip for inspection before boarding a flight, we might get a whole bunch of new naturists who find out how pleasant it can be. Of course, that assumes the government will be thoughtful and make sure the temperature is properly controlled for nudity-no guarantee there.

I have been on a 5 hour flight with an unruly passenger sitting across the aisle from me. For over 3 hours I talked this guy as if he was a civilized person and not a drunk idiot. He destroyed the smoke detector in the restroom as well as dumping all of his food onto the middle seat next to him. He wrapped his head in a towel that made him look like Arafat and smoked in his seat. He used unsocial language that I have only heard in sleazy bars. It was scary for most of the others and the flight attendants seemed unable to do anything about him. If this nut had a bomb I would not be writing this now. He got 7 years in the slammer for his trouble.

I will gladly strip naked in front of the security people if it makes air travel at least a bit safer. We in the USA are all too concerned about someone seeing us without clothes. We have to get over it and get on with whatever it takes to improve our safety. These guys aren't going to stop their stupid attacks.

We can complain about invasion of privacy or constitutional rights until the cows come home but travel will never be like it was 20 years ago.
