Nude Racism

The National Geographic Channel is currently running a Nudity edition of the Taboo show. The three segments in the show include Australian Wiccans, Christian nudists, and the Japanese Spirit Man ritual. Throughout all of these segments the nipples and genitals of all the Caucasian and Asian people are blurred out, but in the wrap-up there are images of African women with their nipples fully visible.

The only explanation as to why an African nipple is acceptable for television while an American nipple is taboo can only be racism. For years the National Geographic has published photos of nude Africans, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with that, the fact that they would choose to censor images of the nude bodies of white people is patently offensive.

There was a period in the eighties when National Geographic Magazine frequently had articles that included pictures of nude people. I recall one article before the reunification of Germany that included a photograph of a nude woman on a beach in East Germany that clearly showed her breasts. I haven't subscribe to NG for some time so I don't know when or why NG started covering European body parts.

I saw the same show and I was wondering the same thing. I agree with your point!
