Playing "Doctor"

C'mon, all of you out there played some sort of "show me yours and I'll show you mine" game when you were kids. Maybe you were four, maybe you were 15, or maybe you were somewhere in between, but at some point we all wanted to see what was in each other's pants. It's a natural and healthy curiosity, a normal part of growing up, especially in a clothed society where we hide our bodies and therefore make the forbidden something to be desired.

So, in 2008 when all kids have cell phones with built-in cameras, it's a logical progression for "show me" to progress to "photograph me". So, the question becomes, is this normal sexual curiosity, or is it a crime?

In Salt Lake City, police are investigating a group of teenagers who exchanged nude photos of themselves using their cell phones.
A parent of one of the kids found the pictures on the child's cell phone and called police. That led police to begin investigating and start questioning the teens.

The 13 and 14-year-old boys and girls have been taking pictures of their own genitals and breasts.

"They're taking pictures of themselves and sending it to another friends," Whitaker said.

The kids who have been questioned told detectives they did it "kind of as a joke." It could potentially be a crime, however.
This is yet another example of the death of common sense. The parent who called police is an idiot. Call the other parents, talk about it over coffee, and take away the cell phones if you must, but involving the authorities is simply a despicable overreaction.

So, as detectives get to the bottom of this crime, rounding up and interrogating the subjects, filling out forms, and dusting the phones for prints, say a little prayer for these kids who are being scarred for life by adults that have lost all touch with reality.
